Fishing the Internet offers many informational sites Lahontan Valley News/Fallon Eagle Standard, Saturday, September 27, 2003 BY DEBBIE SHARP PRODUCTION Click here to read about "Wes's Fishing Report" Warning Lahontan Res. water levels are low, very low. If you chose to use your boat for fishing or any reason on the lake be sure you have a depth finder and be careful and slow because of shallow spots and stumps sticking up just under the water. 9-04 Fishing report by Geoff Bailey from Salt Lake City.
The
walleye and wipers are in the shallows. Fishing has been excellent for
the wipers . Try fishing rocky shore areas (6-mile beach and the
narrows) with crankbaits or minnows. In the picture below
Dan Hannum has broken his previous two state records with
this 18lb 8oz Wiper. 4-10-04 Fishing Report by Wes's Fishing Report, email address wes@wescraigs.net or home phone # 1-775-423-5353. There have been some Walleye and Catfish caught off and on. As the weather keeps warming up the fishing should pick up for the Catfish, Sacramento perch, Wipers (Striper & White bass Hybrid), Walleye, White bass and a few trout if you can find them. Be sure to bring lots of suntan location and mosquito spray you will need them where you go this time of the year. Hope to see you there!!! 9-18-03 Fishing Report by Wes's Fishing Report and Cydne's "THE FISHING ZONE" 1-775-423-2077. Fishing is spotty. If you find them, work the area over good. There is a good chance they will move on soon. If you are not getting any strikes and you want to catch some fish you may need to move to another spot, if fishing from shore or in a boat. 9-4-03 Fishing Report by Wes's Fishing Report and Cydne's "THE FISHING ZONE" 1-775-423-2077. I have not heard much about fishing at Lahontan Res. lately. I'll be checking out an unusual story I just heard of. I want to make sure it's true!!! 8-27-03 Fishing report by Walt owner of the Sportsmen's Den & Liquor in Fallon, NV 1-775-423-3825. 10lb. Channel Catfish caught at the Truckee Canal spillway near the dam today. 8-6-03 Fishing Report by Wes's Fishing Report and Cydne's "THE FISHING ZONE" 1-775-423-2077. It seems that the Churchill County side of the lake has be spotty and slow. There has been some Walleyes caught and a few Large Mouth Bass. On beach 1 an 8lb. Walleye was caught and a 4lb. Large Mouth Bass was caught near the dam. It seem the night time off shore fishing has been the best yet still slow catching 8 - 10 fish per night. I was talking to Cody Simper and he told me about the 10lb. Carp he caught at beach 6. Nice size Carp, way to go Cody!!! Cody also ties his own flies for his fly fishing trips. Beach 6 on the Silver Springs Side seems to be the hot spot on Lahontan Res. these days. So pick up your minnows, worms and anything else you need and head over to beach 6 on the Silver Springs side. 7-10-03 Fishing report by Pat Waterhouse, from Fallon, NV Last week I and PJ and Dutch, my boys went fishing Thursday morning at 9:00AM. We had a a great day fishing . We were fishing the Narrows with blade baits and bottom walkers. We also used night
crawlers, had several double and one triple hookups. We were catching White Bass and Sacramental perch fishing in about 12 foot of water. We caught about 25 fishing all total and left the lake around 2:00 PM. 7-8-03 Fishing Report by Wes's Fishing Report and Cydne's "THE FISHING ZONE" 1-775-423-2077. Pat Waterhouse said the Sacramento Perch on average at Lahontan are larger this year. He has been catching a lot of them this year in the Narrows. You might want try out the area. The Narrows are a good place to try for Walleye as well. 6-1-03

Fishing Report by
Wes's Fishing Report and Cydne's "THE FISHING ZONE" 1-775-423-2077.
Lahontan has shown signs of some nice Walleye fishing, then nothing. As the water starts to pick up we should see a more steady improvement in the fishing a Lahontan. If your going to fish for Walleye try the Narrows and the Silver Springs side.
If you fishing from the shore you might want to try fishing at the Truckee Canal where it dumps into the the reservoir by the dam. It's my understanding the commercial fisherman has been seeing a lot of pan fish in his nets. This may end up being a
good year to take the kids out for some fun catching them. When you find where they are and usually in schools they can be lot of fun to catch especially with the child on board. Remember there is a Mercury warning by he State of Nevada be sure to
read and understand it. 3-13-03
Fishing Report by
Wes's Fishing Report and Cydne's "THE FISHING ZONE" 1-775-423-2077. The fishing is slow but a few being caught near the dam where the Truckee River diversion ditch flows into the lake.
I heard one nice fish was caught there the other day. Rumor has it, it was around 6 pounds. Sorry I don't have any more details. 1-20-03
Fishing Report by Wes Craig with Wes's Fishing Report! The fishing at Lahontan Reservoir is slow to none. I went to the Dam Monday used worms using the Bobber
With a Brain and without a bobber. No bite but got a nice nap. there were around seven other fisherman on shore and one in a boat. No one got a bite while I was there for 5 hours. It's still early and maybe in a month or two it will be worth
going out again. It was a nice nap and a nice day to be out!!! 7-13-02
Fishing Report by Wes Craig with Wes's Fishing Report! Marty Litton, his son Buster, and I launched about 6:00 am at the Cove on the Churchill County side and went to the Narrows. We were spotting lots of fish and seeing the White bass jumping but the bite was
slow. We picked up two Black Crappie, two Sacramento Perch, and one small walleye. As the skiers started showing up in the Narrows we notice the fish spreading out. We decided to go to the Islands across from the Cove. Not much being
caught there just a few said Pat Waterhouse with Pat's Guide Service. Around noon we decided to go home. I was sure a nice morning. The next trip, if things go right, will be to Shelter Cove, Ca. July 25,26, 27. I will put
the fishing report from there on Wes's Fishing Report for the West" 6-29-02
Fishing Report by Wes Craig with Wes's Fishing Report! Marty Litton, his son Buster and I started fishing around 7:00 am. In the Narrows we were tracking fairly
decent size schools of fish on the fish finder, but we only had two hits and we brought them to the boat only to release them! One was a White bass and the other looked to be a Black Crappie. We noticed as the morning went along, the skiers started to come by
more frequently and the schools of fish seemed to be getting smaller. After a while we decided to go out to the Island on the Churchill County side of the lake but we weren’t spotting very many fish. We then started trolling from beach #1 to beach #4. On our
way we cruised by a large seaplane; I understand it was built in the early 50’s. It was kind of “Cool” to look at since the fish were not biting it broke up the monotony…. After talking to Pat Waterhouse with Pat’s Guide Service (1-775-423-3903) about the fish seeming to scatter as the lake got busier with skiers, it appears that the best time to fish is from daylight to around 10:00 am. But I’ll keep trying until I get it right.
How knows, maybe the next trip? 6-14-02 Fishing report by Pat Waterhouse, with Pat’s Guide Service, 1-775-867-3903. On Friday the 14th of June, Gary Ball and his son drove from Gardnerville to fish at Lake Lahontan They started out at 6:00am caught some fish at the narrows. The fish were caught on some blade baits with night crawlers. The largest size was from 2 1/2 to 4 lbs. and the
average size was 3 lbs. The total caught about 20-30 fish, we had one triple and two double hookups. We were in about 25 feet of water and fishing next to the bottom. We caught one Small Mouth and one Large Mouth bass in the 4lb. range, three walleye and the
rest were all pan fish. It was the first time for Gary Ball and his son has caught walleye. I had a great day, the weather was good, and Gary Ball and his son were fun to be with. We decided to release all the fish were caught. I went out on Sunday and
caught and released some Walleye as well. 6-22 & 23-02 Fishing report by Pat Waterhouse, with Pat’s Guide Service, 1-775-867-3903. Pat’s Guide Service went fishing at Lake Lahontan with Ray & D’Lene Burbank and Dr. Powning from Reno, NV. They caught 3 Walleye, several Sacramento Perch, Crappies, White bass and Large Mouth bass. They were using Blade Baits and
Bottom Walkers with Night Crawlers. The largest size was 3 ½ -4 lbs. and the average was 2 ½ lbs. The total fish caught was 20 fish. We were fishing in 15 ft. of water and the fish were being caught between 12 ft. and 15 ft. of water (next to the bottom.)
Dr. Powning caught a nice Large Mouth bass on his first cast with a Deep Diving Shad Wrap along the shore line. It was about 4 lbs. We went back through the same spot with a Bottom Walker and Blade Bait. The weather was great and the wind was blowing about
10 mph which made for some interesting fishing. Sunday, I and my son Dutch went fishing at Lake Lahontan and we caught and released 15 fish. We only fished for 4 ½ hours! 6-18-02
Fishing Report by Wes Craig with Wes's Fishing Report! The fishing is still is beginning to pickup for some and fair for others. The good old standby seems to be working
fair. The water needs to warm up around 5 or more degrees before it get any better. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will get enough hot weather to bring up the water temperature. Another technique that seems to be working well is using a
bottom bounce with a night crawler behind it.
THE FISHING ZONE has a bottom bouncer that is custom made for the
THE FISHING ZONE . This bottom bouncer has 2, 3, 4, or more blades of any color or
multiple colors you want 6-11-02 Fishing report by Wesley W. Craig with Wes's Fishing Report and THE FISHING ZONE. There will be a Newlands Centennial Celebration with
Venders on June 14th & 15th. At the Kick-Off party we will be showcasing the local businesses, artists, hobbyists, and talent that have provided "100 Years of Making the Desert Bloom" There will be a live band and dancing at the dam and fireworks
Friday night the 14th. A whole list of things going on Saturday the 15th from 5:30 am the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, 6:00 am Hot Air Balloon launch, 9:00 am, 11:00am & 1:00 pm Tours of the Power Plant, 11:30 BBQ provided by Overland Hotel, 12:00 Noon Navy
Parachute, 2:00 pm, Duck Races, 3:00 pm Horseshoe tournament, 8:00 pm live band and dancing at the dam & at 9:00 am a parade of lights. The venders and concessions will be available all day Saturday. Don't forget to come
and fish a little and enjoy the day at the dam on Churchill County side of the lake!!! The fishing is still a little slow but improving a little and as the water warms up it will get better. There was a large Whiper caught last Friday. I was told
it had to be cut in two pieces to be weight in at the Division of Wildlife Dept. I'll try to get more info. and put it on the website. 6-3-02 Fishing report by Wesley W. Craig with Wes's Fishing Report and THE FISHING ZONE. As the weather keeps getting warmer the White bass and
Whipers should start showing up on the end of everyone's line. This year we should have some nice large Whipers caught. It will be pretty exciting to catch one of the 1st Whipers planted. At the Truckee spillway near the dam it has been slow
the last week I was told the water is a little cool yet but the fishing will improve as summer keeps coming. As I get some reports showing the fishing has improved I'll be sure to post them. Minnows are hard to get right now. Burke's Market and
Resort has them when she can keep them in stock. They usually sell pretty fast. At this time I am not aware of any one selling minnows in Fallon. Fishing Report by Lois Scoville with Burkes Market in Silver
Springs, NV. Catfish and Walleye are being caught from Beach #4 to the mouth of the Carson River. A few White bass & Wiper being caught. There was a 21 lb. Catfish caught this last week. 4-17-02 As the weather starts to warm up the fish will become more active and we should be seeing more reports of Walleye being caught and the strippers should start feeding more aggressively. There is a lot to look forward
to in the next few months be sure to send in your fishing reports. Right now if you can find minnows, they seem to be working on the Silver Spring side and the good old stand by of worms are working as well. Churchill
County side is still slow-very slow, but could change any time now. The Lake is low and there is a danger of shallow spots just under the surface of the water, so be careful and keep your eye on the surface of the lake and your depth finder. TCID has started
taking irrigation water out of the lake so unless we get some more water from the Sierra’s, the lake will begin to lower even further making boating even more hazardous. So Good Luck and BE SAFE!! 4-15-02
The owner of the local commercial fishing company said the walleye and other fish are showing up on the Silver Springs side and so seems to be the best place to try to catch them right now. 4-10-02 There will be a
Spring Expo at the Silver Springs side of the lake next to the launch ramp at the day use area on May 18-19, 2002. There will be crafters, food
booths, outdoor recreation, fishing equipment, environmental education & entertainment. Proceeds to support the development of day use area sponsored by Silver Springs Area Chamber of Commerce and Nevada State Parks & Recreation Department. You must pay a
Park Entrance Fee. For information call the Chamber of Commerce at 1-775-577-4336. Fishing Report by Lois Scoville with Burkes Market in Silver
Springs, NV On 4-5-02 David Hall landed a 10 lb. Walleye using minnows and Donny Thomas landed a 5 lb. Walleye, using worms at Beach 4 on the
Silver Springs side. Brad Kennedy caught a 9 1/2 Walleye some catfish and trout. Some Walleyes are being caught at the mouth of the river. If you have a chance to go fishing stop by
Burkes Market and pick up what you need and have a nice day fishing. 4-8-02 Fishing Report by Wes Craig with Wes's Fishing Report and The Fishing Zone. After talking with
several fishermen after this weekend fishing for Walleye is on again off again. One just has to go and try. The water is just a little too cold. But with the weather warming up it should break loose anytime. Just go out and enjoy the day. Good Luck and BE
SAFE!!! Fishing Report by Terry Hansen with Terri Jigs. We spent 4 days fishing on the Churchill County side of the lake and did not catch any fish. We fished with minnows,
trolled, and did everything we could think of and did not catch a thing. There were other boats out and they were having the same luck - no luck. With the weather warming up the fish should be starting to bite any time. Right now its very slow. But it was
fun to get away and try somewhere different. 3-30-0-1 Fishing Report by Wes Craig with Wes's Fishing Report and The Fishing Zone. With the weather warming up and the lake rising
the fish are beginning to turn on, at least the Walleye. As the water temperature reaches 50 degrees some fish will began to feed a little more by the time the water temperature reaches 65 and above more of the fish will start to feed more and become more
active. With Wipers growing to be nice sizes now and the Walleye reaching 7 pounds and up, there is going to be some great sport fishing this year. Don't forget the White bass, catfish (up to 20 lbs or more) and your pan fish, etc. We should have a great
year!!! Remember to read the Nevada Division of Wildlife's Health Warning regarding the fish in Lake Lahontan! So go out and have fun catching some really nice fish. Lahontan is one of those places where you and the family can have fun fishing, swimming,
water skiing, and just taking a cruise in the boat. Hope to see you there!!! 3-30-02 Fishing Report by Burk's Market Bait and Tackle shop in Silver Springs. Several groups of
fishermen came in with 4lb., 5lb., 6lb & 10 lb Walleye today using minnows. They were catching them at Beach 4, and Fishermen's Point on the Silver Springs side and around 300 yards south of the dam located on the Churchill County side. It's been the best day
so far. 3-15-02 The water has come up to where the launch ramp can be used at the North Shore Marina. Some fisherman are catching Catfish on the north end of the Narrows; they are locating the old river bed and fishing on top of it and catching up to 20
lb. Catfish. A three to four pound Rainbow trout was caught near dam last week. It's still a little slow but as the water warms up we should see the fishing improve. I'm looking forward to catching some of the nice Walleye and Wipers and anything else that
will tug at my line. 3-1-02 The water level in Lahontan Reservoir has come up some more in the last 30 days. Fishermen are still picking up some Walleye at the Truckee canal spillway near the dam. They were caught on minnows.
